Nik is a Calgary-based session musician, sound tech, producer, band leader, instructor, and songwriter. He specializes in pedal steel and drums, but is versed in percussion, lap steel, dobro, banjo, bass, harmonica, acoustic and electric guitars. He is also an experienced vocal arranger and harmonizer.
Bands he has accompanied include Noeline Hofmann, Shred Kelly, Amy Nelson, Jordan Klassen, Gunner & Smith, Red Hot Hayseeds, and many others.
His solo project The Porch Hounds released an album and toured in spring 2024. All instruments written, performed, recorded, and mixed by him.
He has shared a stage as direct support for acts including The New Pornographers, Mt. Joy, July Talk, Elliot Brood, and Yukon Blonde, and was direct support for Zach Bryan, The Turnpike Troubadours, and Colter Wall in 2025. He has appeared with bands at Ottawa Blues Fest, Rolling Stone Beach Festival, Northern Lights Boreal Festival, Ness Creek Music Festival, Shambhala, Reeperbahn Festival, and countless others.
While living in Revelstoke BC, he programmed two summer-long concert series in 2020 and 2021, coordinating and producing limited-capacity live music concerts in remote locations (pictured). When the concert series returned to a single location in 2023, he was one of two lead sound technicians for the 56-show series. He has also worked as a technician in partnership with New Horizon Productions during the multi-media weekend festival Luna Revelstoke.
